What to do if you are not receiving SMS messages from BECTU

SMS messages are handled by an online service that uses the details listed in your BECTU Membership Profile, so it is important that your details and union subscriptions are kept up to date.

If you are not a BECTU Member, you can join at

https://bectu.org.uk/join/

If you are a member and have changed your mobile number, email or postal address since signing up, you will need to check that your registered details are correct.

There are 2 ways to do this:

1, by logging in to the 'My Pages' section of the Bectu website using your Membership number and password. From here you can view, and change, your contact details.

2, by contacting Bectu Membership directly.

Check the Mobile Phone No field

If this field is empty, you will not receive SMS messages. To be safe, enter your mobile number in to both the Home & Mobile fields

Check the Branch you are assigned to

Branches are responsible for local activities within their area & there are more than 350 branches in Bectu, make sure you are in the right one:

For Sparks living in London, your Branch should be Lighting Technicians LTECH

For Sparks living outside London, your Branch will be your local Regional area, for example " Yorkshire & Humberside" - (YH)

Additional note for Sparks living outside London

The BECTU Database automatically assigns people based on their registered home address. If you live or have moved outside the M25, you will be added/moved into your local Regional Branch.

Likewise, if you move inside the M25, you will be transferred to LTECH

Assuming that your personal details, and regional branch details are correct, but you are still not receiving SMS messages, contact membership and ensure that the SUB-DIVISION field entry is RLTECH (Regional Lighting Technicians).

This field is an administrative option that can only be viewed, or changed by BECTU Membership.

Call them on:

02073460900

or email:

membership@bectu.org.uk

If all the above is correct, there could be a block on the number at your handset or on the SMS system. for further help, please get back in touch with the Branch Mobile or email bectusparks@gmail.com

If you have gone through the process above, the manual syncing process will add your number to the SMS List.

Syncing usually takes place towards the end of the month, so if you joined mid way through the month, there will be a delay.

If you are sure that all details are correct, you can then:

Click here for instructions to check if your mobile number is currently registered with LTECH using the automated text service

If you wish to not to recieve these informative messages, Text: YC4Y6STOP to 60777 and the system will not send to your number any further.
