PEAK PERIOD TRAVEL ADVICE

We wanted to let you know that we expect roads and ports to be busy, and give you all the information you need to prepare:

At the Port:

Passport checks take place before check-in, our check-in closes 45 minutes before departure so you need to make sure you arrive at the port in time to get through all check points before then. We advise at least 90 minutes to complete all checks

Please have your passports ready and out of any covers to get through passport control easily. We also need to scan them again at check-in so keep them to hand. Please have your booking reference number with you, it is an 8 digit number that you can find in your confirmation email.

You may be held in what's called the 'buffer zone' which means there are delays at Border Control, while extra checks are carried out by the French Police. Rest assured, if there are any queues, we will get you on your way ASAP

Be prepared to queue as there are limited facilities in the ports. We recommend that you have refreshments in preparation and have used toilet facilities en route. Speak to a Marshall if you need any other help in the lanes

Sailing Updates:

Be sure to check our sailing updates page on Poferries.com, or follow us on twitter www.twitter.com/POferriesupdate before you set off. Our dedicated Customer Communications team will be on hand 24/7 to help you

Tell us your mobile number and we can send you SMS sailing updates if there is any disruption. If you booked online, you can check/add your mobile number at: www.poferries.com/en/login. If you booked over the phone call us on 0800 130 0030   (Free UK, open between 07:30 am - 10:00 pm every day including bank holidays).

Tell us the correct vehicle registration, and number of people travelling in advance as it will speed up check in

Traffic:

Check traffic conditions - http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic-information/

Dover TAP maybe in place, which means a 40mph speed restriction. Lorries will be held in the left lane and by traffic lights in Dover until space is available at the port

Plan your journey and give yourself enough time to get through any traffic

We hope you have a great trip and hope that the above points help you prepare for your crossing with us.
